Breathwork and Ecstatic Dance Taster Session
On Friday 20th December the church is hosting a Winter Solstice Shake Out from 7:30-9:00pm upstairs in the Pyramid Room. Join James Lockley for breathwork and an ecstatic dance taster session to destress during the busy run up to Christmas! The price of admission is £15 or £12 for concessions, however if you can't afford these rates just pay what you can. Please pay in cash on the door. Barefoot or indoor shoes advised for the dancing. This is a strictly alcohol and drug free event.
Contact James Lockley to express your interest or for more information using either JamesLockley2021@gmail.com or 0796 444 9207 (text only).
Christmas Carol Service
Join us for a Christmas Carol Service on Sunday 15th December from 3:00pm downstairs in the Main Hall! We'll be accompanied by organ as we all share in singing some of our festive favourites. Tea, coffee, mince pies and conversation will follow this informal, friendly service.
Regardless of your faith, or whether you attend a place of worship regularly, all are warmly invited to come along as we ring in the festive season together!
Community Connections Café
The Community Connections Café is a new initiative launched in October of this year. Its aim is to bridge cultural barriers by introducing people to the food and art of different countries. The Café runs on the last Thursday of every month in the Pyramid Room upstairs, and each session consists of the teaching of a recipe (or two!) followed by a beginner-friendly guided art project. All attendees participate in the cookery and art and get to share the meal we make. The Café is free to attend and you do not need to book on, just turn up on the day. After the Café has run for an initial six months we will host an exhibition of all the art people have produced across all sessions.
This initiative is part funded by a grant from Burnley Pendle and Rossendale Council for Voluntary Service.
There will be no Café in December, the next session will take place in the last week of January 2025. More details TBA.
Councillors' Surgeries
The church hosts a local councillors' surgery on the first Saturday of every month, downstairs in the Main Hall. From 10:00-11:00am, Labour Councillors representing the wards of Hareholme and Waterfoot and Longholme will be at the church to answer questions and give support and advice. You do not need to book, just come along on the day. The next surgery will be on Saturday 7th December; the schedule for the next six months is as follows:
-
Saturday 7th December 2024
-
Saturday 4th January 2025
-
Saturday 1st February 2025
-
Saturday 1st March 2025
-
Saturday 5th April 2025
-
Saturday 3rd May 2025
Film Nights
Film Nights
We run a free film night upstairs in the Pyramid Room on the last Friday of every month from 7pm. Snacks and refreshments are provided and you do not need to book in advance to attend - just show up on the day. Donations to help with our running costs are greatly appreciated, but are not at all compulsory. We try to show a wide variety of films from all over the world, both classics and contemporary releases, but always with a theme we feel relevant to our religion and ethos of equality for all, or relevant to contemporary social issues. Though the films we show often cover serious topics, our film nights are always laid back and we encourage anyone to attend - our main aim is to bring people together for an inexpensive evening all can enjoy.
There will be no film in December; our next film night will be Friday 31st January 2025. More details TBA.
Jiu-Jitsu Classes
We host multiple weekly kids' Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes delivered by Steve from Strategy Fight Team Rossendale. Classes for under 15s run every Wednesday and Thursday 5:45-6:45pm. A 4-6 year olds class will resume from 10th January 2025 and take place every Friday 5:15-6:00pm. Beginners and new attendees are absolutely welcome, and the first class is free to try. From then on it's £5 per session. Message Strategy Fight Team on Facebook and look through their profile for more information.
Lancashire Adult Learning
Digital Classes
Lancashire Adult Learning (LAL) are holding a free weekly digital skills class at the church throughout term time until the end of June 2025. It is a beginner-friendly course, tailored to your specific needs and the types of device you use. To find out more information about the course, visit the church on Wednesdays 11:00am-12:00pm during the school termtime - if you come during the school holidays, there will be no one at the church to help you.
You need to complete a digital skills assessment to begin attending the course, and we are holding some in the Pyramid Room upstairs in January 2025. We will update this page with a poster and a schedule of assessment dates when these have been confirmed by LAL. If your completed assessment indicates the course we have here at the church wouldn't be a good fit for your needs then LAL may recommend other courses in the local area.
Line Dancing
We host a beginner-friendly line dancing group every Tuesday 1:00-2:00pm in the Pyramid Room upstairs. It costs £3 per person to attend a session - no pre-booking is needed, just turn up on the day to participate or find out more.
